Potty Time

I am kind of reluctant to write about this. Let me start by saying Scarlett is NOT potty trained yet. She will be three in August, which is also the same time the baby is due, and I've been starting to worry that she will still be in diapers when the baby comes. At the same time, I'm in no rush to train her. Part of the reasoning in my own crazy mind is that with the new baby coming I'm not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel in the way of buying diapers...we will still be doing that for a few more years. And of course, I am concerned about what to do when she is potty trained and we are in public. In my germaphobe mind, I can see us getting dysentery the first time we use a public restroom, and have actually looked into getting a portable potty to use in the car for such instances...although I think that might just cause Scarlett to become a freak about germs like me, which I really don't want to facilitate.

Regardless of my fears and reluctance, I know that Scarlett is at the age when she might be ready to train. So...several times a day I ask her if she needs to go potty. Most of the time she says no and actually kind of freaks out about it. But randomly yesterday, she said that she wanted to go. So we went...and waited, and waited, and drank some chocolate milk, and waited some more. Finally after drinking all of the milk and singing "Building up the Temple", "Jesus Loves Me", and "The Wise Man Built His House Upon a Rock" about 400 times, SHE WENT POTTY!!! She ended up going three times yesterday, each time taking about 30 minutes, so I spent 1 1/2 hours yesterday sitting on the bathroom floor singing songs and fetching more and more water. I can't say that she's trained, but I guess it's a start, and that's something!

How exciting!!! Darby was doing really well with potty training. Going at least 2 or 3 times a day and starting to ask to go. When Sutton was born our routine got off. I wasn't here for a few days to ask her or reward her or anything. And her Nini (Kyle's mom) didn't know what was going on. After we'd been home a few days and started trying to get back in to the swing of things I tried to pick up where we left off. And let's just say she wasn't interested anymore. It's been 5 months and I feel like we're further behind than we were before we had the baby. She's just now starting to show some interest in it. All of that to say, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Potty training has been our biggest hurdle yet! How fun that Scarlett is wanting to do it on her own!
